….Most often man asserts; “The devil made me do it.”
For some, it’s with an undertone of a lie that they utter these words.
That this’s indeed self-humiliation never occurs to such. Self-humiliation in the sense that they have lost the courage to face the consequences of that which came out of their Free Will, that which has come off an intrinsic part of their inner core, the spirit. It’s akin to saying that one has given over the control of one’s Free Will to the Darkness. One has relinquished one’s power to control and shape one’s thoughts, words, and deeds to him.
For some, it’s with a strong conviction that these words burst forth from them. They actually believe that the devil controlled them and their actions.
Truly, there are some who often sense inwardly that they had an out of body experience when they committed crimes like murders, an unprovoked physical assault etc., They often claim that they are being controlled by another from within to commit such a crime while they themselves remain powerless . They are convinced that it was another entity who committed the crime using their body.
Cases like this are not without some elements of reality and they can be explained in the light of the Natural Laws.
A man who neglects his spirit, who neglects the activities which strengthen the spirit or who strengthens the body one-sidedly to the detriment of the spirit, be it through drug use, occult practices and many more cannot but have a weak inner core, the spirit.
A weak spirit is automatically vulnerable to influences from without by discarnate evils ones seeking opportunities to unleash their evil actions on the material world. Some may go as far as incapacitating the real owner of the body, taking possession of the body, and acting through it.
Even in extreme cases like this, it’s always the fault of man, for he is the one who failed to tap on the natural protection against such an occurrence, a proper development and natural strengthening of his spirit. It was he who gave room for influence from without to over-power his spirit. It is never the devil.
Of course, one of the most potent breakers of one’s natural protection is anger. Anger, furious, uncontrollable anger breaks down the natural protection like no other. Anger suppresses love, the greatest gift of all given by the Almighty Father of All. He who allows anger to take root in him does himself a grave ill, for he has opened himself to possible control by alien entities.
The Devil Made Me Do it!
Has the devil the power to make one do something if one has not subjected oneself to his and his minions’ control?
A lot in man’s experience speaks for an affirmative “No”, whereas nothing in man’s experience speaks in affirmation.
The first encounter with Lucifer who we called the Devil in Biblical narrations states that he tempted the woman. It did not say he took over the Free Will of the woman. This of course has to be understood in the right spiritual sense, but Lucifer did not force the pictorial first couple to fall into his temptation. They succumbed through their Free Will.
Lucifer is incapable of forcing man to do things. In the scheme of things, man stands with a firmer foot-hold in the world of matter than him, for he does not possess the abilities that man has been given to stand with strong footing in gross matter. Unlike man, he was not even given the Free Will. He developed it, due to his gazillions of worlds away from the proximity of the Almighty Father.
Lucifer can only lure.
Thus, most certainly it’s self-deceiving and the height of self-humiliation when one shifts the blame for an action on the devil. It’s akin to saying that a child lured a mature man into committing a crime.
Can this debar ascent?
Most certainly!
Indeed, when one shifts responsibility for the consequences of one’s action on to others or the Devil, one loses a valuable key to ascent, and one erects a barrier on one’s path towards it, for in each life experience there are lessons to be learned.
Naturally one can only learn the lessons if one has taken responsibility for the action. Taking responsibility for an ignoble action and experiencing and owing the consequences cannot but generate a firm volition not to repeat such an act again. This is what we all know as repentance and it’s the sure path to spiritual ennoblement and thus ascent. It can only happen when one takes responsibility for one’s actions.
We see this most stunningly in the Biblical narration of the experience of the two thieves hanging on the cross on either side of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The one who clothed his innermost sensing, his responsibility for his actions in words got the key to ascent from the Lord. An immediate actualization of his ascent was made possible because of his proximity to the Pure Divine Power, the Lord Jesus Christ hanging on the Cross beside him. The other, mocking the Lord, oblivious to his responsibility for the consequences he was reaping also received his due.
For man, whatsoever comes forth of his thoughts, words and deeds, there is none for which he bears no responsibility.
